iDigit for the composites industry
iDigit: Flexible like a carbon fiber sheet, solid like a carbon fiber structure
Carbon-fiber has literally “shaped” some of the most high-tech industries and the products they’re manufacturing in the past decades, especially in the automotive, marine, aviation, aerospace and defense industries.
iDigit’s success story in the composites field is no different than its versions in the other industries it conquered. By keeping an ear out to our clients, we’ve gathered their insights in forms of feedbacks and requests and implemented them into iDigit.
Thanks to our clients in the industry (private corporations and government institutions alike), iDigit has its fingerprint on many of the crafts that go on land, water, air and space by being part of their design & manufacturing process, namely during the digitizing phase.

Why iDigit ?
Some of the many reasons that make iDigit the optimal digitising solution for the composites industry

Cumstomisation is key
Templates that are digitized in the composites industry could be made of the actual carbon-fiber sheet, peeled covers or hand-made templates made of masking tape and various other materials assembled together.
This renders each use case almost unique and requires careful customization around the client’s needs. Luckily, iDigit can be quite flexible while configuring and it becomes a solid digitization solution for its user once installed. Just like a carbon-fiber part itself.
We determine the ideal board colour, size and installation type based on the nature of the templates used for digitizing to make sure requirements are thoroughly met.
Measure, Modify, Create
iDigit’s automatic smoothing function helps smoothing out irregularities around the template contours that can be caused by the fibers sticking out.
Using iDigit’s various CAD functions, existing templates can be modified or new templates can be generated from scratch or using existing templates as references.
Generating a symmetrical pair of an existing pattern is as easy as a few clicks.
Having the picture in iDigit's background means you won't need access to the physical pattern to refer to and all the modifications can be done by using the picture as a guide.
Compatible with all CAD software and cutting machines
Once patterns are reviewed and ready, they can be exported as DXF,HPGL or SVG for the next steps which is mostly cutting.
iDigit's file outputs can be customised in terms of layers, which ensures full compatibility with your exiting CAD/CAM software and machinery. These layers can be set in a way to be handled by the correct tool of your cutting machine to be cut, drawn, punched or labelled as needed.
Sample Installations

iDigit XL | Marine | Composites
France
This 300x150 cm iDigit XL system is used to digitise templates of various material for manufacturing boat structures using carbonfibre. It is fixed on the wall to save space with the camera being held in hand.

iDigit Lite | Composites
United Kingdom
This custom iDigit Lite pattern digitising system is installed on a custom stand that makes it mobile and easy to move around. It is installed in the same room as the cutting machine and the autoclave and is operated with a hand-held camera.

iDigit Lite | Composites
This is another example of an iDigit Lite system installed for one of the UK's prominent composites manufacturing company with a custom camera rig. Instead using the camera by hand or on a tripod, our clients have chosen to fix the camera on the ceiling as it suited their use case best.

iDigit Lite | Defense | Composites
Yet another example of custom setup for iDigit Lite. This unit is being used to digitise various templates for military applications. The camera is fixed overhead and operated remotely.
